RE: Want console/cup holder(for over engine cover) 99 Itasca

Our MH is in storage now, I can post some pictures over the weekend, coffee stain included (left by the old console):) I did modify the bottom of new console to mate the doghouse. I used a belt sander to contour, took about 10 min to match the profile.

RE: Want console/cup holder(for over engine cover) 99 Itasca

I recently replaced my out-of-date oak console with one of these.
I later added a 12v plug on the side of the console so the DW can charge her cell phone and Laptop. They have 20+ models and lots of colors to choose from.

RE: what would be a good price to polish a MH

My mobile detail service charge $12/ft for exterior. That include power wash, polish gel coat, wax and tire dressing. I used to have a kid that does a great job for 1/2 of that....that (the service) only last for a about a year.

RE: Know any millionaires?

This includes a recently departed multi-millionaire gentleman who until his demise lived a few blocks from me in a home he owned and raised his kids in for 35 years, from the profits he made from his famous Char Broiled Hamburgers. I used to see him weekly, as he mowed his own yard! And Carl never did understand our obsession with RVing! :h
In the early 80’s, I worked as valet parking attendant in South Coast Plaza one summer, I happen to bring up the car for Carl, he gave me a "Happy Star 2-for-one coupon" as a tip.

RE: Campgrounds won't negotiate a group discount?

Having been in business for myself (not a cg), I can tell you IMHO the cg owner is nuts. I would give the rally organizer a free site and a discount to the group unless the group wanted a weekend that I couldn't provide what they needed. Every one of those 20 campers would be a potential return customer. If you look at business in a short-sighted way, you will be out of business shortly.
If a businessman is confident with his operation and know his advantage over the competitions, he should't have to offer any discount to keep operating a sucessful business.
In his case, the CG owner probably knows you are content with his operation(you are still there) and his $10/day with hookup seems to be a very attractive offer to begin with. Obviously, he doesn’t need to pass down any discount to keep your (or future) business.
However, I think he could use better words to deliver the same message.

RE: 454 fan

If you have room in between the radiator & grill, you may consider an electric fan. I have a newer P30 I put one in hoping helping to cool the trany, it work well cooling the whole system. I have seen temp drop 20o sitting in the traffic on a hot summer day. It’s thermostatic controlled, I rarely hear it come on the highway.

Don,
People don't take it seriously because the advice is free.
Had you charged $100/hour for your energy-saving consulting, wait and see the praise you get : )

RE: CB Radio Install

Need help with CB Radio install. First, need opinions on non-ground antennas, pros and cons. Also, I wired direct to battery. When I start engine the squelch goes crazy. Squelch seems normal when engine off. Also, The Cobra 25wxst I have has a S-meter. The needle stays to the left with engine off but jumps to 3/4 when I start engine. Is this normal? All assistance appreciated.
No Ground Plane Antenna is basically adding a dipole to your antenna system. It's better than not having any ground at all but it's just a Band-Aid. It won’t enhaace poor (RX/DX) performance issue most RV face. Only pro is it won’t burn up the radio, con is waste of money. On the scale 1-10, I give it 1.5 ( 1 for effort, .5 for performance).
As for engine noise, we first have to identify the source. To start, unplug the coax from the radio and check if the noise goes away, if so with coax unplugged (DO NOT KEY UP WITH OUT THE COAX) then most likly is the coax or antenna. You may have to relocate the mount, add or get to a better grounding point, change to a higher grade coax, those with a better shielding.
If the noise still exist with the coax unplugged, then likely it's from the power source, probably your ignition system. In this case replace the spark plugs & plug wire to the resistor type. AutoZone sells for about $30. I would go as far as install electro ferrets($6 @ Radio Shack)to the power of the fuel pump (FORD trucks is notorious of this problem) it creat a static choke which cuts down the nose in the electrical system.
If this noise you hear is pitched (hum) and it changes with the engine RPM, then it's from the charging system, it's your alternator. A inline noise filter will take care of the problem and/or add a "102 disc" capacitor in the(-)ground should works too.

RE: DIY Cool air intake

I see, thanks for the info. I put a K&N cold air intake on my 05 Tahoe, I noticed more torque and better throttle response on the low end after I put it on, specially when I’m pulling a trailer. Can’t say I noticed as much gain on the top end, than again, I rarely go much faster than 65 with a trailer and the newer and fuel injected motor makes a difference, too.

RE: DIY Cool air intake

Does it matter much if they are not equally matched in flow?
I see the left is a little more kinked at the bend than the right.
I understand 4" pipe would need a bigger passage, but would it work better than 2- 2"er ?

RE: Painting plywood floor

Only paint the floor if you plan on throw woodchip or peanut shell over the top to hide it or you can black out the windows, so in low lights you won't be able to tell,if you don't plan on doing either, I would put the carpet back.

RE: WalMart and Tires

Maybe we RV'ers should ban together and form a "National Account." I would bet Good Sam or one of the other big organizations could do it if they wanted to. How much money would GS service save if the manufactures would go out and do roadside tire repairs? How much more could they charge for their service?
Had a friend who sold tires to the manufactures. This was 25 years ago, but back then, he claimed they purchase by the train load and got the tires for around $5.00 each.
Why not the consumers just get together and form one account. We all buy the same car, wear the same cloths, eat the same bread, read the same paper. People no longer need verity in life just as long as it's cheap.......get real.
Tires always have one of the biggest mark-up in the retail business and that is a fact.

I can not believe the people who are so quick to defend a company like Interstate! They are not known for high quality and I would try to be more helpful instead of being so quick to assume the poster erred.
I read the original post, the way he wish to approached his problem is like asking for a slapping.

The way I look at it, if you don't violate the law, then what's there to worry?
If you worry about getting busted, don't matter what you do, soon or later you will get caught.
